Breakfast this morning.

I met up with my good friend Johan this morning for breakfast. We try and get together on a bi-weekly basis to talk about the things of the Kingdom and what is happening around us in the communities that we are involved with. I always find my times with Johan very encouraging and refreshing, as he is one of the few guys I know who would rather talk about Jesus and relationship with Him than the church structure, methods and how we can change the world.
I have had countless conversations with church leaders/church planters and we have spoken about many things to do with church, structure, ministry etc., and yet have failed to talk about, even mention the One who has called us to relationship with Him. I have often been guilty of my relationship with God being a means to and end, 'I spend time with God, so that I can be more effective as a minister, a better this or a better that." My relationship with God does benefit my life and the lives of others, but this cannot be my motivation! Loving God with all my 'heart', 'soul' and 'mind' becomes must become my sole passion, preoccupation and satisfaction. [And by the way Martha, I had bacon, egg and Mozzarella cheese on toast, and a bottomless coffee. It was lovely!]
