Birthdays for the Aged
Today my dad turned 59! I phoned him this morning, and while we were chatting it hit me that my dad is one year away from 60. This seems strange to me, scary in fact because it means that I am also getting old. Ok, I only turn 29 next month but what it does mean is that dad and I are in the same boat - one year away from massive milestones, 30 & 60.
Late last night I was attempting to fix the shower door that my little angel Terryn had broken early on. I had to fiddle around with the rollers which required some detailed work with my hands. Panic hit hard as it dawned on me that I don't have the same ability with my hands that I used to. Am I coming down with a nasty dose of Premature Aging Realisation Syndrome? I am going grey already you know!
Back to Dad. Last week dad and I spent the day together working, actually dad came along with me on one of my work trips. We had a good time talking about stuff and remembering back to the days when I used to accompany him on his work trips. These were the greatest moments for a 10 year old boy, riding with dad in a Land Rover, crossing foreign territory and negotiating rugged South African dirt roads. What a rush!
Dad was really excited about coming to work with me for that day. So is the circle of life.
