My Church Rant for the Day

As many of us have seen already, there have been various conversations 'emerging' in the world of Bloggerdom about, dare I say it...the 'emerging church'. OK, I said it!

Over the last while I have been thinking about MY fascination/fixation with the church. Conferences, books, websites all about the church, better and more effective ways of 'doing' church, new and exciting trends in the church and on and on we go. What is it about us and the church? Oh yes, we ARE the church and many have felt a call 'to' the church. But what is it about my desire to 'tinker', to 'fiddle', to 'change' various aspects of church. (All with good intentions I must add) I guess the question that I really want to ask is: why do we find it easier to point people to the 'best', 'latest' kind of church than to lead them to the One who breathes life into that which is dead? Why do many of our conversations centre around church and not around Jesus Christ Himself. Would my world of Bloggerdom survive on this kind of Holy talk? Or are my 'tinkering, fiddling' senses being 'adulterated' by the seemingly 'holy gossip' of latest church trends and ideologies.

Who/what am I pointing people to? Where are they living their life from? Let me/us not forget that it is God who builds HIS Church and He has given us the awesome task and privilege of making disciples of Jesus. The legacy I would like to leave would be one of 'This guy showed me Jesus and how to live this life in Him' and not 'This guy showed me how to do church.'
